
Discover the breathtaking Issyk-Kul region on this 5-day journey filled with mountains, gorges, and lakeside beauty. From the cultural hub of Karakol to the alpine hot springs of Altyn-Arashan and the red cliffs of Jeti Oguz, this tour shows you the best of Issyk-Kul beyond the typical tourist path.
Day 1. Kegen – Karkyra – Karakol
Our journey begins with the picturesque Karkyra Gorge, where pristine mountain landscapes captivate the soul. From there, we head to the charming town of Karakol, a cultural crossroads rich in history. We’ll stroll through the central square, visit the Historical Museum and the unique Przhevalsky Museum, admire the old wooden Orthodox Church, and explore the elegant Dungan Mosque. The day ends with a tasting of the famous local dish — ashlyanfu. Overnight stay in Karakol.
Day 2. Karakol – Mountain Gorges & Hot Springs
After breakfast, we set off to the stunning Karakol Gorge. Guests may enjoy a scenic cable car ride or a horseback journey through the mountains. Later, we’ll visit the breathtaking Aksuu Gorge, where everyone can relax in the healing hot springs at the “Kench” resort. Overnight in Karakol. (80 km)
Day 3. Karakol – Altyn-Arashan
Today we venture into one of the jewels of the region — Altyn-Arashan Gorge. Traveling by car, we’ll reach this alpine paradise, take a short hike among flower-filled meadows and fragrant pine forests, and unwind in its famous natural hot springs. After lunch, we return to Karakol.
Day 4. Karakol – Choktal (or Cholpon-Ata)
After breakfast, we visit the legendary Jeti-Oguz Gorge. Here we’ll marvel at the iconic red rock formations — “Seven Bulls” and the “Broken Heart” cliff. Our journey continues to Barskoon Gorge, where gentle hikes lead us to picturesque waterfalls. From there, we travel to the surreal Skazka (Fairy Tale) Canyon and the dramatic Aksay Canyon. Overnight in Choktal village or the lakeside resort town of Cholpon-Ata.
Day 5. Choktal – Kegen
The morning begins with relaxation on the sandy beach of Issyk-Kul Lake. Afterwards, we explore the stunning mountain valleys of Grigorievka, Kyrchyn, and Semenovka Gorges, each offering unique natural beauty and a glimpse into nomadic culture. Our last stop is the fishery in Chon-Oruktu village, before we head back toward the Kegen border.
